What to do when travelling on a HART bus during COVID-19

We have put in place this procedure to help minimise the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Please do not travel if you have COVID-19 symptoms or feel unwell. It may all seem a bit strange to begin with but you will soon get used to these new ways of travelling.

Before you travel with us, please can you

Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, or use hand sanitiser.

Sanitise any mobility equipment or shopping trolleys with an anti-bacterial cleaner.

Have your face covering ready for when you board the bus.

Bring some tissues with you so that if you need to sneeze or cough you can do this into the tissue.

Collecting passengers and boarding the bus

Our driver will be wearing a face mask and gloves, and sometimes a face shield or goggles.

The driver will knock on your door and then step back to allow 2 metre distancing. Or if you are waiting for the driver outside the driver will keep 2 metre distance.

The driver will ask if you have any virus symptoms, a high temperature or new cough. If you are well then proceed to the bus.

If you do not need assistance to board the bus our driver will keep to the 2 metre distancing.

If you require assistance please ask the driver, they will wear a face shield for everyone’s protection.

The driver will indicate which seat on the bus to sit on, the seats will fill up from the back.

Disembarking the bus

When the bus has reached its destination please remain seated until the passengers in front of you have got off the bus.

Please do not leave any face coverings, gloves or tissues on the bus.


It is important to wash your hands as often as possible, use the facilities provided by the place of your destination ie hospital or supermarket, they all have hand santiser available and don’t forget the supermarket trolley will need wiping down with disinfection before you use it. Try to avoid touching your face, especially mouth or eyes.

When you get home wash your hands for at least 20 seconds.

If you become unwell with symptoms within 14 days of travelling on our bus, please let us know so we can ensure contract tracing.
